The Lehigh Valley Qualifier was quite a ride. We began our qualifying matches successfully with two wins. Our newly completed lift system operated flawlessly, and our autonomous proved yet again to be amazing. Unfortunately, we lost our next matches, one of which we were matched against the Robotic Doges. However, to our surprise, we only lost by a four point margin. The match was still a moral victory and gave our team confidence as we headed forward. To our dismay, the final match was another close loss by only 5 points. At the end of regulation, we finished in 14th overall. Going into alliance selection the team was hoping to be selected to round out an amazing day. Thankfully, we were the second pick of the 1st placed team, Sab-BOT-age. Along with Divide-by-Zero we won both of the semifinal matches as well as both of the final matches, ending the day on the winning alliance. With our robot performing extremely well our team felt confident going into the awards ceremony. Although somewhat disappointing, we placed 3rd for the CONNECT, THINK, and INSPIRE awards. While we did not win any awards we were still glad for the chance to get in one more practice run before States. On top of our in-game performance, we had a great time connecting with other teams. Our awesome programming team helped team 9486, the Scigearian Tigers, with programing difficulties and connected with their mentor. Overall the Lehigh Valley Qualifier was an amazing day, and furthered our preparations for STATES. A huge thanks to the Exeter Community Library for allowing us to hold an amazing outreach event this past Wednesday. Over 20 children and their families attended and were able to interact with team members, drive our outreach-bot, and learn about STEM and FIRST. We hope to see you at Lehigh Valley!
We are starting to become accustomed to the “up and down” experiences that our qualifying events continue to present. Yet again, the South Central PA (York) event offered another example of this emotional turbulence. A much anticipated first match ended in disappointment as our robot experienced a complete electronic shut down which left us unable to move after a shortened autonomous program. The rest of the competition proved to be much more successful, with our robot performing flawlessly during the autonomous period and our team scoring lots of minerals during the driver-controlled time. Some stiff competition from our alliance opponents prevented even more success, and as a result, we ended regulation with a win, a tie, three losses, and lower ranking than we would have liked. However, in spite of our less than stellar record, our robot made a positive impression among our competitors and we were selected by Team 6045, Ohm Boys to join their playoff alliance. We contributed positively in the semi-final match helping our alliance to advance to the championship match. Despite a really good showing in the finals, we finished a little short and settled for Finalist Alliance recognition. Once again, we were blessed to have our team recognized in a variety of the award categories, winning the THINK award, placing 2nd for the INSPIRE and MOTIVATE awards, and finishing 3rd place for the INNOVATE award.
We hope to see you all at the South Central Pennsylvania Qualifier in two days! Good luck to all teams.
In an effort to share the positive influence that the FIRST Tech Challenge and Kardia Robotics has had on the education of our team members, we had the opportunity to meet with State Representative Mark Gillen. This experience proved to be an excellent conversation that allowed our team to express how we have grown to be more effective critical thinkers, collaborative team members, creative innovators, and communicators. The technical and leadership skills that we have learned were also discussed. Rep. Gillen was proud that our Berks/Lancaster County homeschool group has been competitively successful and has continued to show Christian professionalism during our FTC events. He was very generous with his time and offered valuable insight and advice on how to further our community influence.
Happy New Year from Kardia Robotics! Hope to see everyone at York and Lehigh Valley.
The Hat Tricks Qualifier proved to be another roller coaster day for Kardia Robotics. After a rough start and a poor performance in the first two matches, the afternoon proved to be much more successful. Three consecutive match wins, a Design Award, and a third place finish for the Inspire Award ended our initial 2018-2019 competition on a high note. Due to our all-around strong performance, we earned another trip to the PA State Finals which will be held in March. We hope to see you all at Hat Tricks this Saturday! Good luck to everyone.
What a day! To say the least, the Oxford Open was quite an adventure! Until about 9:30, our robot wasn’t wired and our team really had no idea how the day would unfold. After completing inspections, the design team was hard at work making sure the linear slide was functional for our first match. Surprisingly, we were able to get the robot on the field and to our great relief, we pulled off a win. To add to that, none of our drivers had prior practice. Even though we struggled with autonomous, our robot championed the mineral intake system. To our great surprise, we were one of the few teams that could score in the lander and score consistently.
Fortunately, we had no more major breakdowns for the rest of the competition and finished the day in 1st place overall! We were the only undefeated team. We learned a ton and are hoping to implicate changes over the two weeks we have until the Hat Tricks Regional Qualifier on December 1. We’re looking forward to seeing how we do and are extremely thankful for such a great scrimmage! We look forward to seeing everyone at Hat Tricks! |
